As part of the City of Denver’s Game Plan for a Healthy City, Tres Birds, in collaboration with Wenk Associates, has taken on the reprogramming and design of a multi-block stretch of the south Platte river front property between 32nd and 38th streets, dubbed Arkins Promenade. The center of this stretch is anchored by RiNo ArtPark, a Tres Birds reclamation project completed in 2021. North of the Art Park is home to the Elevated Walkway. Designed by Tres Birds, the walkway is a 400-foot-long elevated platform adjacent to the South Platte River, offering views up and down the river corridor and of the surrounding neighborhoods and city beyond.

Designed to reconnect the community to the river corridor after years of industrial activity, the elevated walkway and surrounding park connect the Platte River bike and pedestrian trail to the neighborhood through green, public space, offering opportunities for playing, gathering, strolling, and sitting.

The steel walkway is supported by telephone poles and climbs to a height of 28 feet at its highest point, where it opens to an expansive deck overlooking the river. The wood plank decking, railings and picnic tables are crafted from sustainably sourced lumber that will weather to grey. A spider-web of sturdy netting built into the deck encourages climbing across and lounging above the park. Recycled plastic milk bottles formed into grey blocks have been constructed into benches at the ground plane.
